HEAR STORIES FROM OUR SINGERS, CARE PARTNERS, AND VOLUNTEERS
“I know I’ve complained a lot about what I’ve lost in my life lately, but the singing puts something back. I love it.”
- John (Singer)
“I know I've said it before, but what you started with Joyful Voices is a blessing that can't be overrated. Some of the best days I had with my mother after she started her long goodbye was with her there with you guys. She often would say "thank you" for taking her. We sang our practice songs together so many times in my car I can't count them. Every now and then I listen and remember those good times. I truly believe the end would have been harder without those special times.”
- Lori (Caregiver)
"The last 2 and half years have been a life changer. Getting Hazel back into singing has been a joy. Thanks for your leadership and enthusiasm.”

“Singing under your direction has been pure delight. I was singing in a church choir that had become quite stressful. My husband is coming into later stage dementia and Joyful Voices gave me the perfect alternative. Thank you, thank you for all that you do for the group & me!”

- Pat (Caregiver)
“What an amazing idea to do this chorus. Finding out that you have Alzheimer’s is shocking and depressing enough to find out, and to recluse is your first reaction. Joining this chorus...puts me with people who understand what you are going through and gives you a chance to relax and do some of the silly things without being embarrassed and just be with people that are going through this experience. Caregivers have a perfect opportunity to learn and share plus and minus thoughts with each other. Thank you for this opportunity.”

-Judy (Singer)
"...this choir has become not only a singing group, but also an extended family and resource...A sincere “thank you” from the bottom of my heart never feels like enough.”
- Lori (Caregiver)
“Being a part of Joyful Voices is the highlight of [my sister’s] week and mine too. Thank you for your time, love, and dedication to this fabulous group!”

- Martha (Caregiver)
“My husband and I have enjoyed every moment and will continue to do so. Our daughter came down from northern Virginia just for the concert because she loves the Joyful Voices Chorus productions.”

- Sarah (Caregiver)
“I have to share a wonderful little moment that happened on the sidewalk Thursday - Katie was coming up the sidewalk and, as is usually the case, was feeling a bit anxious and not sure where to go, looking at all of the doors and also looking back at her caregiver and out towards the car as if she might just need to bail out. Right at that moment one of your volunteer singers who was walking in behind them picked up on that emotion, greeted her by name, and told her how pretty she looked. Katie echoed that back in a questioning voice, "I look pretty?" still trying to process it, I think. Then the volunteer just started singing "I feel pretty" from West Side Story. Katie immediately joined in, perfectly in tune, and they sang their way in the door, anxiety relieved, and the comfort of a familiar song shared. Just one of those 10-second miracles that happens each week at Joyful Voices.

"I am truly grateful for this group and all the work so many put into it. There are blessings now and in the hereafter! Thank you to all who make it possible!"
- Diane (Caregiver)
“I joined Joyful Voices to serve and to sing in honor of my mom, Eleanore, who had Lewy Body Dementia. However, this group has come to mean even more to me than that. Joyful Voices is a Love Fest! We love to sing and laugh and celebrate and Move and Groove. We love to be there for each other. Music is what brings us together, but LOVE is the cement that binds us.”

- Maureen (Volunteer Singer)
"God Bless you and all the Joyful Singers for the heartfelt gifts you share."
